How 2015 went
Gold ended the year around USD 1,060 per ounce, its lowest level in six years. The price fell around 10% over the year, driven by expectations of the first US rate hike since the financial crisis.
A Swiss referendum proposal requiring the central bank to hold at least 20% of its reserves in gold was rejected in November — further pressure on the price.
When the US Federal Reserve raised rates in December 2015, gold was already turning. The decline effectively stopped at the same time as the rate hike.
