999 means 99,9% pure gold. Rent investeringsguld – barrer og mønter. The rest of the alloy is typically copper, silver, zinc or nickel, which determines the colour: more copper gives rose gold, while more silver and palladium gives white gold.
Where do you find the stamp?
Look for the three small digits on the inside of a ring, on the clasp of a chain, or on the back of a brooch. Older Danish pieces may instead be stamped with a karat mark, e.g. «14 K». If the stamp has worn away, a jeweller can test the purity in a few minutes.
What affects the price?
Only two things: the spot price of pure gold and your weight. Design, brand and age usually mean nothing when selling for melting down — only if the piece has its own collector's value.

999 means there are 999 parts pure gold per 1,000 parts of metal — in other words 99.9% pure gold. The rest is other metals that make the alloy harder and more durable.
How do I calculate the price of 24 karat?
Multiply the spot price per gram of pure gold by 0.999 and then by the weight in grams. The calculator on this page does this automatically at today's rate.
Do I get the spot price for 24 karat when I sell?
No. A buyer typically pays 70–95% of the metal value, because the alloy has to be melted down and refined. The larger the quantity, the better the price per gram you can usually negotiate.
