Where do you find the stamp?
Look for the three small digits on the inside of a ring, on the clasp of a chain, or on the back of a brooch. Older Danish pieces may instead be stamped with a karat mark, e.g. «14 K». If the stamp has worn away, a jeweller can test the purity in a few minutes.
What affects the price?
Only two things: the spot price of pure gold and your weight. Design, brand and age usually mean nothing when selling for melting down — only if the piece has its own collector's value.
